Dr Ágnes Herczegfalvi is a paediatric neurologist at the Medikids Paediatric Centre and Associate Professor at the Department of Paediatric Clinic No.II at Semmelweis University. She graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine, Szechenov Medical University, Moscow, and received her MD degree from the University of Debrecen in 2000. Her main areas of expertise are: examination of disorders of motor development, detailed examination in case of suspected muscular disorders, ENG-EMG examination, genetic testing, counselling, family screening, examination of affected family members as necessary, examination of hypermobility/dystonia. This can lead to early diagnosis and the introduction of appropriate early movement and occupational and developmental therapies. Parents are also involved, either in group or individual sessions, to help parents of children with different developmental needs to learn how to play and learn at home, how to engage their child in a clever way and how to involve other siblings or family members in their child's activities.
With an increasing number of children with headaches, dizziness, not sleeping, restlessness, fidgeting, or other psychosomatic complaints such as lethargy, stomach aches, poor performance at school, eating problems, it is the neurologist's job to determine what is going on and to get the right specialist involved to solve the problem. Child neurological disorders are often chronic, affecting almost every aspect of the child's life. That's why I think it's important to treat children as partners and involve them in discussing what to do about their problems. Let them know and know what their abilities are, what needs to be developed, let them be treated as partners." Ágnes Herczegfalvi at the Medikids Paediatric Centre offers paediatric neurological examinations for children who may have: - suspected motor or intellectual developmental delays, who are undergoing some kind of developmental intervention but the cause of the symptoms is unknown, - various movement disorders: over-mobility, stunting, or loss or deterioration of previously learned movements, - various skin blemishes, vasodilatation (often due to neurological or metabolic disorders), - speech delay or speech disorders, learning disabilities (previous school performance).
- assessment and screening for other neurological conditions.
