
Dr. Lajos Fábián
Doctor, entrepreneur, marketing-, health economics- and health insurance specialist
Lajos graduated from the Debrecen Medical University in 1986, then from the Nyíregyháza County Hospital, and spent his first professional years at the Szent-Györgyi Albert Medical University. As a surgeon and trauma surgeon specialist, he changed his career path as an appointed university assistant professor in early 1993.
He studied finance, economics, law, and in 1994 he obtained a marketing specialization degree from the College of Foreign Trade. During his career, he led the marketing and sales team of the German Bayer-Schering, was the first Hungarian managing director of the Danish Falck, and then worked as the CEO of the Czech, Slovak and Hungarian companies of the American Abbott Laboratories. Later - after the period in Prague - he managed the entire Eastern European and Mediterranean region of Abbott Labs from Switzerland, among other things overseeing the post-acquisition integration of the German BASF Pharma (Knoll) in more than 10 countries.
Between 2004 and 2012, as Chief Operating Officer of the Swedish Medicover, he led the company's international organization from its office in Waterloo (Belgium), participated in the independent launch of the Synevo laboratory division, directly managed large hospital constructions in Warsaw and Bucharest, participated in the establishment and then market launch of the Stockholm-based health insurance company Medicover, and opened more than 50 outpatient clinics in the region under his leadership. When he retired in January 2012, Medicover was already the largest private healthcare provider in the region, with an organization of 5,200 people under Lajos' responsibility.
Between 2005 and 2010, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Aranykor Health Fund.
Since 2012, he has been managing his own investments as an entrepreneur and performing expert work for large private investment funds and insurance companies in various countries. Among other things, he worked as a leading expert in the commercial due diligence team in the region’s largest healthcare transaction – the investor competition for the LuxMed group. In recent years, he has led the pre-M&A due diligence of more than ten companies in six different countries.
Between 2012 and 2018, he led the construction of the Serbian Medigroup group of companies as the Chairman of the Board of Directors, practically from the foundations until the partial sale in July 2018. He is currently active as an expert and member of the board of directors of foreign healthcare companies.
Former reserve military officer, president of the MDLSZ (Hungarian Dynamic Shooting Sports Association) – uniting 163 member associations and more than 7,500 athletes – as a social mandate, member of the board of the MTTOSZ (Hungarian Technical and Mass Sports Clubs National Leisure Sports Association), a qualified master shooter with both short and long firearms, a top finisher in various shooting competitions in his favorite events, a shooting range director with a police authority license, a shooting competition judge, author of a textbook for preparing for the combined firearms knowledge exam, and a delegate elected for 5 years to the National Assembly of Delegates of the National Defense Sports Association.
Co-chairman of the VOSZ (National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers) founded by Sándor Demján, and chairman of the VOSZ Health Section, the happy grandfather of six grandchildren, recipient of the “For the Hungarian Economy” award presented by the Minister of Finance.
Chairman of the Board and founding shareholder of the TritonLife Group, and member of the Board and shareholder of the Croatia-based AVIVA Medical Group.
