Physician, Entrepreneur, Marketing, Health Economic, and Health Insurance Expert
An expert of the transforming post-socialist healthcare systems of the CEE Region, with decades of relevant experience gained in 15 different countries.
Lajos graduated from the Medical University of Debrecen in 1986, and spent his first professional years at a large County Hospital, followed by few years at the Medical University of Szeged. As an already appointed assistant professor, a licenced general surgeon, and trauma surgeon, took a turn in his carrier at the end of 1992. He studied finance, economy, law and in 1994 he got his diploma in marketing economics. During his carrier he led the marketing and sales team of the German Bayer-Schering, he was the first CEO of the Danish Falck in Hungary, and he did work as the general manager of the Czech, Slovak and Hungarian affiliates of the American Abbott Laboratories, later leading the entire Eastern European and Mediterranean regional organization of Abbott Labs being based out of Switzerland, amongst others supervising the integration of the German BASF Pharma (Knoll) after its acquisition in more than 10 countries.
As Chief Operating Officer, he led the international organisation of the Swedish Medicover between 2004 and 2012, participated in the spin-off of Synevo laboratory division, managed large private hospital constructions in Warsaw and in Bucharest, participated in establishing Medicover’s health insurance company having its registered seat in Stockholm, then launching its first products on to various markets. More than 50 outpatient clinics were operating under his leadership in the region. At the time of his retirement by the end of 2011, Medicover was already the largest private health service provider and insurer of the CEE region, with an organisation of 5’200 people under Lajos’s leadership.
Between 2005 and 2010, served as member of the Board of Directors of the Golden Age Health Fund.
Starting from 2012, as an entrepreneur, he has been managing his own investments and has been working as a consultant expert for large private equity funds and insurance companies in different countries. Amongst others, Lajos led the commercial due diligence team for a large PE Fund competing for acquiring the Polish LuxMed group, being the largest healthcare related M&A transaction of the CEE region to date. In the recent years he led the commercial due diligence process of more than ten target companies, in six different countries.
Between 2012 and 2018, he drove the private healthcare consolidation in Serbia, as Chairman of MediGroup, practically from the very beginning until the company’s partial sales in July 2018.
Retired reserve officer, serving as the Vice-President and leading the administrative system of the Hungarian Dynamic Shooting Sport Federation, member of the board of the Hungarian Technical & Mass Sports Federation, a master grade sport shooter, a high ranking awardee of different shooting competitions, a licensed shooting range supervisor, a shooting range officer and judge, author of a textbook helping applicants being better prepared for the combined police firearms exams, an elected permanent delegate of the National Assembly of the National Defence Sports Federation.
Lajos is a co-founding shareholder, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of MedAlliance Holding (TritonLife Group).
