– Unfortunately, my mother was often ill, so when I was in primary school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said I wanted to cure my mother, that is, a doctor. Later on, this strong interest remained, so I continued my studies at Semmelweis University, where I graduated in 1984 – begins Dr. Anna Tremmel.

– Before my higher education, I worked as a nurse at the National Blood Service for a year. I was already active in the field of hematology there, but I admit, at that time I still had the impression that this was not my path. At Semmelweis University, however, as word followed word, I still turned in this direction, I delved into it. I obtained a qualification as a clinical diagnostician and hematologist. Within this, I work in a slightly narrower section of the profession, dealing with therapeutic apheresis. This is an interdisciplinary field of science, we encounter almost all kinds of diseases from A to Z, for example, there are neurological, hematological, dermatological, immunological and oncological pathologies – says the hematologist, who has also been performing photopheresis treatments since 2006.

Her main goal is to have as many healthy babies as possible
Dr. Anna Tremmel considers hematological examinations of female patients affected by infertility to be a matter of the heart, as she says, in certain pathologies – for example, in the case of lupus anticoagulant or antiphospholipid syndrome – plasma exchange may become necessary during the period of childbearing.

– At the beginning of my career, I spent a short time at the Schöpf-Merei Ágoston Hospital, and then I moved to the Szent László Hospital, where I initially worked in diagnostics and then pheresis. There I participated in performing stem cell transplants for twenty-three years. Then I graduated from the 1st Department of Hematology at Semmelweis University. I continued my work at the Internal Medicine Clinic, where I have been working ever since. Here, my area of expertise is specifically therapeutic apheresis, and I have been working in the field of infertility hematology for 6 years. I consider myself primarily a practical person, but I also perform teaching duties at the university – shares with us the specialist, whose eternal approach is to be able to help patients, and his main goal is to have as many healthy babies as possible and as few sad mothers as possible.

Exchanges knowledge and experience with hospitals in Vienna and Berlin
Dr. Anna Tremmel has always been dedicated to establishing foreign collaborations, and she spent a few months in Austria and Germany. – From a very early age, I was driven by the desire to find ways to supplement current diagnostics. I was also a young researcher in the field of platelet function. Immune absorption and photopheresis brought me to the German-speaking world. It has always been my motivation to be open to new things, especially when they prove useful in treating patients. This is what drives me forward – emphasizes the hematologist, who still works closely with the Allgemeine Krankenhaus in Vienna and the Charité Hospital in Berlin. As he says, they often exchange information, and he uses as much knowledge as possible in therapies and treatments at home.

Family time and fit relaxation
Last but not least, we asked Dr. Anna Tremmel what recharges her. – For me, spending as much time as possible with my family is the most important thing, I have four grandchildren, they are like organ pipes. In addition, I usually choose active leisure activities, I dance, ski, but of course I also like to read and listen to music.
