Nagy-György Márton
"The best thing about teaching is when both you and the child feel how well they are developing and becoming skilled during therapy. Those smiles when they succeed for the first time in something that previously seemed impossible are unforgettable," says Márton Nagy-György, a speech therapist at TritonLife.
Why speech therapy? What is the story of why you chose this profession?
After high school, I was really interested in two things. Psychology and singing. While I was studying jazz singing, I realized that speech therapy is the full cross-section of everything that really interests me. Speech technology, voice therapies, psychological effects on children's development and its therapeutic effects, responsible work with adults and children, etc.
What experiences have you gained so far?
I graduated from the Gyula Juhász Faculty of Teacher Training at the University of Szeged. Since then, I have been working at the 15th District Member Institution of the Metropolitan Pedagogical Service. For two years, I worked at the Seneca Public Foundation for Dadogókért as a complex art therapy intern under the supervision of speech therapist Eszter Balás.
If you had to say one thing you love about your job, what would it be?
Teaching, and within that, special education is the most beautiful profession. Engineers build bridges and skyscrapers, which everyone admires, doctors try to save you when your life is in danger, scientists discover all sorts of things about the world and send a man to the moon, which are fascinating. But who teaches them and helps them reach the best of their talents? We teachers and parents go hand in hand. The best thing about teaching is when you and your child both feel how beautifully they develop and become skilled during therapy. Those smiles when they succeed for the first time in something that seemed impossible before are unforgettable.
What are your plans for the future?
In 10 years, I would like to be one of the best complex art therapists in the country.
What do you always strive for in your work?
I strive to see the person behind the patient and to help them and the family behind them to the best of my ability. Parents and children come to us because they need help, which can be a simple problem or a long therapeutic process. In this case, it is extremely important that the parent clearly sees what the goal is and that there are often no shortcuts. In order for the child to develop, the parent and teacher must work together as allies for the child, otherwise the success of the therapy will decrease.
What is your favorite area within speech therapy and why?
My favorite topics are those where singing, arts and psychology meet. These include voice therapies such as Dysphonia, or therapy for stammering and stuttering.
What are three positive qualities that you are proud of?
I would rather turn this question around. The children said the following: “Uncle Malci is kind, smiling and cheerful!” :)
How do you recharge? What do you like to do when you're not working?
I perform with our acapella group called WindSingers, hike, or read.
