Dietetic consultation

Dietetic consultation

Dietetics is an applied nutritional science. The scope of activities of a dietitian includes group health education and individual health-preserving, preventive lifestyle counseling for all age groups, as well as professional advice and the compilation of personalized therapeutic diets related to this. With their credible, up-to-date knowledge, the dietitian provides the patient with advice appropriate to their given condition, keeping in mind the current professional recommendations. They take into account lifestyle, dietary preferences, and comorbidities in therapeutic diets. In addition to general dietary advice, they help make the recommended diet realistic, and with the help of a food diary kept by the patient, they point out the points that need to be changed. They provide healthy alternatives for foods that should be avoided in the diet, and avoid extreme, unhealthy dietary restrictions. If necessary, they check and refine the patient's diet during weekly or monthly follow-up consultations. The goal of the consultation is to achieve lasting results in cooperation with the client, to cure patients or improve their condition by reforming their lifestyle.

When should we consult a dietitian?

Health-preserving, preventive dietary advice: recommended for all patients who do not have an acute or chronic illness, but would like to receive up-to-date, reliable information from a professional on developing healthy eating habits, compiling their individual diet, and would like to navigate the colorful selection of food and the correct choice of cooking methods more easily. During the consultation, there is an opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills that can help the patient in the future to create their diet as simply and healthily as possible, which serve their long-term health preservation:

  • development of a lasting lifestyle change
  • dietary therapy for mild overweight, without chronic diseases (BMI: 25-29)
  • sports nutrition
  • diet for pregnant women
  • strengthening diet (if there is no chronic disease)

Dietetic counseling is recommended for those who want to change their lifestyle and diet with the help of a dietitian due to an illness that requires a special diet. During the consultation, the specialist places special emphasis on uncovering and treating the underlying psychological causes, which, especially in the case of overweight patients, can be the primary triggers and maintaining factors of overeating.
