Dietetics is the applied science of nutrition. The scope of activities of a dietician includes group health education and individual health-preserving, preventive lifestyle advice for all age groups, as well as professional advice and the compilation of individually tailored therapeutic diets.

With his authentic, up-to-date knowledge, the dietician provides the patient with advice appropriate to his/her condition, keeping in mind the current professional recommendations. He/she takes into account lifestyle, food preferences, and, in the case of therapeutic diets, comorbidities. In addition to general dietary advice, he/she helps to make the recommended diet viable, and with the help of a diet diary kept by the patient, he/she points out the points that need to be changed. He/she provides healthy alternatives to foods that should be avoided in the diet, and avoids extreme, harmful dietary restrictions. As necessary, he/she checks and refines the patient's diet during weekly or monthly control consultations. The aim of the consultation is to achieve lasting results in collaboration with the guest, to cure patients or improve their condition by reforming their lifestyle.

In what cases should we consult a dietitian?

Health-preserving, preventive dietary consultation: recommended for all patients who do not have an acute or chronic illness, but who would like to receive up-to-date, authentic information from a specialist about developing good eating habits, compiling their individual diet, and who would like to more easily navigate the colorful selection of foods and the correct choice of food preparation methods. During the counseling, there is an opportunity to acquire knowledge and acquire skills that can help the patient to create a diet as simply and healthily as possible, which will serve to preserve their long-term health:

  • establishing a lasting lifestyle change
  • dietary therapy for mild overweight, without chronic diseases (BMI: 25-29)
  • sports nutrition
  • diet for expectant mothers
  • roborative diet (if there is no chronic disease)

Dietary counseling is recommended for those who, due to a disease requiring a special diet, would like to change their lifestyle and diet with the help of a dietician. During the counseling, the specialist places special emphasis on exploring and treating the underlying psychological causes, which can be the primary triggers and maintenance factors of overeating, especially in the case of overweight patients.
