"In my opinion, the most defining element of the patient-doctor relationship is the patient's self-determination. Everyone has the right to decide about their own fate and treatment. My role in this is to ensure that my patients receive all reliable and medically relevant information for their decisions," says Dr. László Márkus.

Full introduction

Dr. László Márkus, obstetrician-gynecologist, obtained his medical degree in 1989 from Semmelweis University of Medicine. During university, he worked as an ambulance officer for 2 years. He began his medical career in the surgery department of the Salgótarján County Hospital, and after six months he continued in the obstetrics and gynecology department. In 1993, he passed his specialist examination in obstetrics and gynecology.

Obstetrics captivated him during his university years. In addition to the mandatory internships at the Baross Street Clinic, he also did scientific student work, and was captivated by the diversity of the profession. He soon became aware of how decisive the role of a doctor is in a woman’s life. In many cases, a gynecologist is “the” doctor. In different forms at different stages of life, he is almost always present, whether it is about prenatal care, minor or major gynecological problems, menopausal complaints or screening tests. They also often provide emotional support and sometimes ask for their opinion on life issues.

His professional development was greatly influenced by scholarships and study trips abroad:

Utrecht, 1989 and 1995
Salzburg 1996
Vienna 1999
He has spoken German since childhood, which was later joined by English. In 2015-16, he lived and practiced in Germany as a hospital chief physician. After returning home, he worked in private healthcare.

It is a great pleasure for me to work in the Róbert Private Hospital team. The environment is extremely inspiring both professionally and personally. The high professional standard and the collegial spirit bring out the most in people. My professional interests are primarily focused on ultrasound diagnostics and endoscopy. Previously, as the head of a menopause clinic, I also gained experience in treating menopausal problems.
In my opinion, the most decisive element of the patient-doctor relationship is the patient's self-determination. Everyone has the right to decide about their own fate and treatment. My role in this is to ensure that my patients receive all reliable and medically relevant information for their decisions. It is clear to me that in matters affecting our own fate, the medical aspect is only one of many and not necessarily the most important, even if it is a disease in a given case. I am happy if my patients take my advice and decide accordingly, but I accept and understand if other aspects override them. I believe that everyone can be helped as much as they allow and want. However, that much is absolutely necessary.

Dr. László Márkus has also been working as a forensic medical expert in the field of obstetrics and gynecology since 2005. He considers this important, on the one hand, to ensure proper medical expertise in legal disputes, and on the other hand, he sees it as an opportunity to keep his professional knowledge constantly up-to-date. It is a great help in this work that he also obtained a medical degree with a law degree in 2008. He and his wife, a pediatrician, have two daughters. The older one has been living an adult life for years, and the younger one will soon graduate from high school. His free time is spent in nature, sports, and books.
